 SHU provides interdisciplinary education and hands-on professional training in dermatological sciences, aesthetic technologies, skin health and cosmetic sciences, integrating biomedical knowledge, evidence-based practice, emerging technologies, research, innovation and entrepreneurship to prepare graduates for national and international careers in clinical, industrial, research and aesthetic-care settings, graduates should be able to: 

Scientific Foundation 

Develop comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and skin biology relevant to dermatological and aesthetic sciences. 

Dermatological Knowledge 

Understand the structure, function, physiology and common disorders of the skin, hair and nails, and recognize conditions requiring referral to qualified medical practitioners. 

Skin Assessment 

Develop competency in client/patient history taking, skin assessment, skin typing, documentation and identification of abnormalities within the professional scope of practice. 

Aesthetic Procedures 

Acquire supervised practical skills in appropriate non-invasive and non-medical aesthetic procedures, including skin cleansing, professional facials, superficial exfoliation, selected peels, microdermabrasion and other approved aesthetic technologies. 

Laser & Energy-Based Technology 

Develop foundational knowledge and supervised practical competency in laser, IPL, LED, radiofrequency and other aesthetic technologies, including their indications, contraindications, safety principles and potential complications. 

Cosmetic & Cosmeceutical Science 

Understand the principles of cosmetic chemistry, formulation, ingredient selection, stability, preservation, quality control, safety assessment and product development. 

Clinical Collaboration 

Prepare graduates to work effectively with dermatologists, aesthetic physicians, pharmacists, biomedical engineers, cosmetic scientists and other healthcare professionals. 

Patient/Client Safety 

Apply principles of infection prevention and control, hygiene, sterilization, occupational safety, emergency response, ethical practice and client confidentiality. 

Evidence-Based Practice 

Develop the ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and apply evidence-based approaches to skin care and aesthetic practice. 

Research & Innovation 

Develop skills in research methodology, biostatistics, scientific writing, product testing and innovation relevant to dermatology, aesthetics and cosmetic sciences. 

Entrepreneurship 

Develop entrepreneurial competencies for establishing and managing aesthetic clinics, skin-care businesses, cosmetic brands, wellness services and related ventures, subject to applicable laws and professional regulations.
