Library Collection
The Salim Habib University Library houses a diverse range of print, digital, and special-format collections, carefully organized into distinct areas to support teaching, learning, and research. Some materials are available for borrowing, while others are for in-library use only and are categorized as Reference or Restricted materials.
Each collection is designed with a clear purpose and usage policy to help users easily identify and retrieve the resources they need. Detailed information about item availability, location, and loan status can be accessed through the Library WebOPAC.
In addition to standard collections, the library also maintains unique physical and online collections, special subject-focused archives, and discipline-specific resources.
Open Access Collection 📖
- The Open Access Collection consists of books covering a wide range of academic subjects and general interest areas.
- ✅ Available for borrowing by all registered members
- 📍 Shelved in open-access areas for easy browsing
- 🎓 Supports coursework, general reading, and research
Reference Collection 🔍
The Reference Collection is designed to provide quick, authoritative information and can be accessed with the assistance of library staff.
- ❌ Not available for borrowing
- 📍 Use permitted within library premises only
- 📘 Includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauruses, bibliographies, statistics, indexes, and similar resources
Special Collection ⭐
Located on Levels 1 & 2, the Special Collection contains high-demand and academically significant materials. Items from this collection may generally be borrowed for two (2) hours only through the Library Circulation Counter.
This collection is further divided into:

General & Recreational Collection 🎨
Situated on Level 3, this collection supports both academic enrichment and leisure reading.
- 📚 Covers Philosophy, Social Sciences, History, Islamic Studies, and Pakistan Studies
- 🎭 Includes recreational materials such as Art & Craft, Literature, and Fiction
- 🔄 Borrowable through the Library Circulation Counter
Archival Collection 🗄️
The Archival Collection, located on Level 3, consists of materials preserved for historical and institutional value.
- ❌ Non-borrowable
- 📍 Use restricted to library premises

Pharmacy, Life Sciences & Engineering Collection ⚙️
This subject-specific collection is developed to support specialized academic programs.
- 📍 Located on Level 2
- 🧬 Covers Pharmacy, Biosciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering disciplines
- 🎓 Supports advanced coursework and research
Serial Collection 📰
Located on Level 1, the Serial Collection provides access to current and latest periodicals.
- 📘 Includes journals, magazines, bulletins, newsletters, and newspapers
- ❌ For in-library use only
- 🕒 Regularly updated to ensure currency of information
Multimedia Collection 💿
The Multimedia Collection is available on Level 1 and consists of non-print learning materials.
- 📀 Includes CD-ROMs, DVDs, and other multimedia formats
- 👩💼 Issued by library staff upon request
- 🔄 Borrowing eligibility depends on user category and academic requirements
- 📍 Issued through the Circulation Counter on Level 1
Restricted Collection 🔐
The Restricted Collection contains sensitive or high-value materials designated for reference use only.
- 📝 Special approval required for access
- ❌ Not available for borrowing
- 📍 Currently housed at the Circulation Unit on Level 2
