The Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, Salim Habib University (SHU), in collaboration with the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Pakistan National Chapter, celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, under the theme, From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM by Closing the Gender Gap on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Auditorium 2, Fatima Business School, Salim Habib University.

The event, which aimed to empower women and girls, transform their aspirations into meaningful action, and promote equal opportunities in STEM fields, featured an insightful keynote address by Prof. Dr. Saima Saleem, Karachi Institue of Biotechnology & Gentic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi, and Secretary, OWSD Pakistan Chapter, titled From Vision to Impact: Building Leadership, Systems, and Sustainable Pathways for Women in STEM. In addition, the event included engaging activities and an interactive quiz that encouraged active student participation and reinforced key themes related to women’s contributions in STEM.

A major highlight of the event was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Salim Habib University and the OWSD Pakistan National Chapter, which marked the beginning of a strategic collaboration to promote research, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for women in science.

Dr. Asma Ansari, Assistant Professor, KIBGE, and Member, OWSD Pakistan Chapter, also graced the event with her presence. Notably present from SHU were Registrar Dr. Muhammad Hussain Habib, the Department of Biosciences faculty members, students, and other faculty and staff members of the University.
